discover/conserve/connect
Rebecca Philio discovered the art of bookbinding after working in libraries for several years. What began as a personal interest evolved into a professional journey, leading her into the specialized field of conservation. This path has allowed her to connect deeply with the craftsmanship of the past while contributing to the preservation of cultural heritage for future generations. She has always had an appreciation for books, not only as vessels of knowledge but as beautiful and intricate objects themselves. She has since expanded her knowledge to include the preservation and preventive care of cultural heritage objects.
Throughout her professional practice, she has carried out:
-
Remedial treatments: board reattachments, paper repair, surface cleaning, conservation bindings
-
Preventive Conservation and Collection care: object handling training, environmental monitoring, IPM, mold remediation
-
Written and photographic documentation, condition assessments
-
Exhibit preparation: design and fabrication of displays; installation and deinstallation support
-
Bookbinding projects, menu repair, and bespoke box making
